It appears that Google page rank was updated on April 29th and 30th. There were several stirrings in the webmaster world as gossip turned rapidly into evidence with many webmasters reporting gains for new sites and old.

Of course we could start a whole debate off about just how important page rank really is. The way I look upon it, this is a rank for how important Google thinks your site is. That alone should be enough. The reward is a marker showing your site has been tuned or optimized and has many back links with hopefully a nice flow of traffic too.

Page rank does not necessarily mean traffic but it does point to the fact you are heading in the right direction and Google is rewarding that fact with a level of importance.

Never overlook the web host….

Webmasters can be referred to as web architects primarily because of the nature of their job which is to develop and design websites. Other titles that are also suitable are website administrator and site author. These “architects” are the ones responsible in designing, maintaining, marketing and developing websites. They are experts in the field of web communication.

Ideally, they have HTML expertise and they are generalists who are managing the different aspects and angles of web operations. The job may involve multiple technical and creative tasks. The markets all seem to point to a slow down in the U.S. economy. Amidst all that, Google pop up with their quarterly results. The results have take most buy surprise as they prove to be higher than expected.

With a tabled bid of 43 billion dollars by Microsoft, for Yahoo, this weeks release of their quarterly figures seem all the more important.

If they too can follow in the footsteps of Google and show an upturn in profits, it will add a weight to the takeover talks with Microsoft.

Bearing in mind we are talking about ball park figures here of around 1.3 billion dollars net for the quarter. That’s within a few dollars of my adsense revenue for last month. Only joking Mr tax man.

Last week Alexa announced a change in its ranking system.

I for one have seen the improvement in the famous graph that either gets displayed on web directories or on your own site.

Alexa say that the new system will have better rankings, from more sources, with an improved methodology. Improved algorithms and more sources focus on a ranking system that is better suited to website popularity, according to Alexa.
